St. Patrick's Day Math Center Packet, and do some worksheets throughout the week for Fluently Adds Within 5 for Subtraction.
We have been discussing lately what the word fluently means!? We basically agreed that the students should be able to solve 6 subtraction problems in a couple of minutes with or without manipulatives. They should be able to solve at least 5/6 correctly in that amount of time. The addition standard for this was very easy for most kids, but counting backwards is more difficult for kids.
What is your district doing to reach this standard of the word fluently? Leave us a comment so we know what other districts are thinking. Our first/second grade classes give timed test over the facts to 10 and facts to 18. Then those students have to get certain amount of problems correct with a certain amount of time. We felt as kindergarten teachers, we didn't really want to start giving timed test, but we did feel there needed to be a time limit on solving 6-8 problems.
Here is a fun pattern freebie that I plan on doing this week in one of my centers. Hope you can use it as well. Check back this week for additional St. Patrick's Day math, literacy, and fluency ideas. Lots of pictures coming this week, too!!
