Flat and Solid Shape Fluency Packets Up On TPT

I wanted to update some of my flat and solid shape things for my classroom. So, we created some new things for flat and solid shapes that also worked hard on fluency with flat and solid shapes.  One of my math goals this year as a teacher is to work harder each day on incorporating fluency for at least 5-10 minutes daily and we decided to start with our flat and solid shapes.
Since this is a new unit, we are going to put it on sale starting Sunday night, July 27 through Wednesday, July 30.  Originally the Flat Shapes Packet is $5.00, it is on sale for only $4.00.  The Solid Shapes Packet is typically $4.00, but is on sale for $3.20.

This is what all you get from our Solid Shapes Fluency Packet

Letters that say Solid Shapes are not included in the packet, but the shapes and labels are included in the Solid Shape Fluency packet.  Love the new facelift, great word wall/bulletin board area for the kids to use, too!!

This is included in the Flat Shapes Fluency Packet, except for the letters that say Flat Shapes.  The cute characters and labels are in this packet.

Even though the pentagon, oval, rhombus, etc. are not in the common core, we always talk about them because they seem to come up in computer programs we use, ipad/ipod apps that they are exposed to, so this is an extra bonus with this unit.  Great way to show you are differentiating, too by stretching those top kids who probably already know those basic common core shapes prior to the unit.

These are all of the items that you will get in the Shapes-2D Flat Shapes Fluency Packet along with the above bulletin board items.

Updated August-June Math Journals on Sale on TPT

One of the projects we had on our summer to do list was to update our math journals and give them a facelift.  Well, so happy to report that this task is off of the to do list.

Here are some of the BEST reasons I love these math journals:
So easy to prepare:  Just throw them in the copier, hit your number of copies and they are done.  No cutting, gluing, etc.

Promotes Problem Solving:  After modeling several months of reading the words, circling key information, and how to illustrate the problem/write a number sentence almost ALL of my students could solve these journal entries on their own by February.

Reviews Several Common Core Standards:  We tried our best to review so many different skills throughout these journals so that they had a spiral presentation each month.  This concept really helped my students with their end of the year Kindergarten Math Diagnostic Test.

Conceptual Understanding:  After my students complete the page, they have to explain their answer and how they solved it to a friend.  This shows that students are not just learning something for rote, they are truly understanding it and taking it to the next level!

Makes Sense of Problems and Perseveres In Solving Them:  This can definitely be seen every day by any observer in your room.  My principal came in during a "walk through" and was totally impressed by what these kids were doing on their own and sharing with each other!

Using Pictures, Numbers, and Words:  Almost every entry students use pictures, numbers, and words to solve their problem.  This is a "BIGGY" for students scoring points on a rubric.  They love this challenge of getting a 4 on our bubble gum rubric.

I'll stop here with my reasons, but there are so many more that I could give to you!!  I start my math out each day with my math journal.

To Do List Begins

We have less than a month before we "have" to be at school, so I a beginning to see the end of summer vacation.  YIKES!!  Plus my family is headed on vacation soon. So, the number of days are getting less.
Today a lot of our staff went to Kent to observe their reading clinic in action and to talk with Timothy Rasinski author of several reading books that can be found on Amazon.  After I returned I had planned on going back into school to work in my room, but that didn't sound too positive to me with the humidity and hot temperature.
So, I decided to wrap up a few things here at home with school that I am going to put up tomorrow in my room.

Word work is one of the items I plan on improving this year in my room, so updating a word wall center board was a must.  Here is what I started out with which is just a colored piece of canvas from Hobby Lobby.

Next phase was using a hot glue gun to put on some border that coordinates with a border already in that area.

Getting closer to wrapping up the first word work center area board.
Added the coordinating border to my buckets that will house my phonic phones.

Phonic phones that will go into the 2 buckets that I finished spray painting tonight before I added the border to the buckets.

I made these cute sound munchers to go along with a bunch of our center activities in our TPT store.  The "teeth" are pieces of gum!!  Gotta love the dear daughter that helped me think of that one!!

My second sound muncher that will be used for literacy centers!

Still sticking with the TEAM theme this year to make my job easier, so just had to make some new TEAM members to add to my collection.

Added some polka dots to my clothespins to jazz them up.  I will be putting these onto my word work board by color coding.  Once I get that area done, I will take pictures and explain.  Possibly tomorrow I will wrap up that area to share with you!

SueBeth and I have been working hard to update our Math Journal covers to make them a little snazzier!  So look for every month to be updated to make our product even better!  I plan on copying mine for the entire year tomorrow.  Just throw them in the copier and hit print!  SO EASY!!

Last Day of Vegas

I can't believe how fast the I Teach K! Conference has gone this week.  I have met some amazing bloggers and tons of new bloggers.  One of the best parts of the conference was my name being pulled for winning a year's subscription for ESGI!!  Once I am back let the wrapping up of some units begin!  Keep watching our TPT store and blog post of some new products!

Vegas Kindergarten Conference

It has been 2 weeks since blogging, but I have been having a great summer.  This week I am so excited that I am attending the Kindergarten Conference in Vegas.
It has only been 2 days so far of the conference and I have a TON of great ideas and have met so many great blogging friends.  Can't wait to tomorrow night when we get to attend the blogger meet up.
SueBeth and I are almost finished of revising all of our Monthly Math Journals.  Look for those to be up in the next few days.
Another new item we will be posting soon are some great 2D and 3D shape items posted in one unit.
One of the fabulous bloggers that I had the opportunity to meet in person!
